REEF & BEACH FISHING with NETS & CASTING, FISHING & BAMBOO RODS

Half hour orientation about the tide, water, wind what not to touch or walk on to protect the coral & for your own safety. An explanation of the different types of bait for different fishing, time to go & where to find them. Dependant on the fish caught some is Catch & Release only. A talk will be given about what to look out for on the reef for IE the different types of coral, sea urchins, starfish etc. All equipment & bait provided & taught how to use them Location & times are weather & tide dependant.

UMU (Underground Cooking Oven) FUNCTIONS

Family Friendly hands on culinary experience on how to prepare the Umu & food the traditional Cook Island way & later enjoy eating the spoils of one’s labour from your own weaved Raurau plate & the Cook Island way. While the UMU is cooking listen to local cultural stories including the coconut tree known as “The Tree of Life”, Husking Coconuts, tree climbing, Pareo Tying, Local Music & Dance, Games etc

*Morning – Preparation - Duration 2– 4 hours - 8.30 am. FREE TIME OR STAY & LEARN EVEN MORE ABOUT LOCAL LIFE IN THE COOK ISLANDS
*Late Afternoon – Unearth the Food, Activities & Entertainment, Kai Time Duration 2 – 4 hours – 4.30 pm - Family Friendly BYO event.

WEAVING DEMONSTRATIONS, LESSONS, PRODUCT SALES & VENUE DECORATING

You are not only here to watch & learn to weave Eco-Friendly products but also to learn about the variety of coconut trees known as “The Tree of Life & the many uses of all parts of the tree & the major significant importance of it to Cook Islanders. A demonstration & display of the different baskets, bags, fans, hats, bins etc will be given & purchase of Brown baskets can be made to take home.
