Kitesurfing

A kitesurfer’s nirvana, our little paradise offers perfect conditions for experienced and beginner kiters alike: clear, spacious lagoons of Rarotonga and Aitutaki, warm tropical waters and predominant easterly trade winds, ranging from 15-30 knots.

Perfect conditions

Regularly voted the world’s most beautiful lagoon, the open space of Aitutaki is ideal for kitesurfing.

Tavake Island sandbar is an especially easy and safe environment to learn or progress to the next level of aerial skills. Steady all year round with passing low pressure systems on the tropical belt, it’s best during the trade wind season of May to October. Local operators can supply lessons, equipment hire and transfers to the best spots. Likewise, lessons, gear and advice is available at Muri Lagoon on Rarotonga, offering similar ideal conditions to Aitutaki.

Manureva festival
World renowned Aitutaki is home to the annual Manureva Aquafest Kitesurfing Competition in August, attracting some of the biggest names in the sport who come to share the culture and beauty of the Cook Islands with like-minded people who love the ocean and its natural beauty. The week-long festival includes kitesurfing freestyle and race competitions, stand up paddle boarding (SUP), outrigger canoeing and a host of social activities.
