Backyard Tours
Overview

Nearly every person who visits the Cook Islands wants to purchase a special gift for others or a keep-sake to remind them of the wonderful time they had in Rarotonga. Many want to buy locally made. Backyard Tours gives visitors an opportunity to meet our talented locals, see how they make their products and learn more about our culture. Your guide will take you to about 8 to 9 vendors on the tour. You'll even visit some of the vendors' homes and see them in action in their own backyards, making shopping with us a unique and extra special experience. All of the places we visit sell locally made goods, right here in the Cook Islands.

This tour is more than just for shopping. Guests will meet a talented and artistic wood carver, see how a pareu (sarong) is made, watch ukulele's being made, and learn how Cook Island pearls are different from Tahitian pearls. It is very informative and interesting.

We only offer small intimate tours with 2 to 8 people per tour. The tour averages about 3 hours including pick up and drop off. Guests will travel in an air conditioned, modern and tidy van. Customised or private shopping tours can also be arranged to suit your specific shopping requirements.

We offer two general tours options:

  • Tour 1 with lunch: $70 per person for nearly 4 hours
  • Tour 2 without lunch: $55 per person for nearly 3 hours

Families (two adults and two children) get a 15% discount.

Happy shopping with Backyard Tours!
