Cook Islands Tourism is proud to support the 18th edition of Vaka Eiva, the Cook Islands' premier international outrigger canoeing festival, taking place from November 22nd to 29th, 2024. As a supporter since the festival's inception, Cook Islands Tourism remains committed to fostering this iconic celebration.

This year’s Vaka Eiva is set to be a spectacular event, with over 500 international paddlers and supporters from Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, and Tahiti expected to arrive in Rarotonga, providing a significant boost to the local economy during the shoulder tourism season.

"Vaka Eiva is not just a sporting event; it’s a celebration of our culture, our people, and our Moana Nui o Kiva (Pacific Ocean)," said Daniel Fisher, General Manager Marketing at Cook Islands Tourism. "We are proud to support this year’s edition and look forward to welcoming paddlers and spectators from all over the world to experience the Cook Islands’ legendary hospitality and the incredible energy of the festival."

The week-long event will see teams compete in a variety of races, including the V6 6K and 12K iron races, singles events, and the prestigious Round Raro relay, all set against the stunning backdrop of Rarotonga’s coastline. Beyond the competition, Vaka Eiva celebrates Cook Islands' rich cultural heritage, with traditional ceremonies, performances, and local arts and crafts integrated into the event.

Vaka Eiva 2024 also provides opportunities for the local community to engage through trade days, cultural demonstrations, and the famous Boiler Swim. Environmental sustainability remains a core focus, with initiatives such as the provision of reusable water bottles and recycling programs aimed at reducing the event’s environmental impact.
