The Cook Islands air and sea borders are open!
Flights currently available from Auckland, New Zealand with Air New Zealand and Jetstar, and from Pape'ete, Tahiti with Air Rarotonga. No more vaccination requirements. No quarantine or isolation on arrival.
Travel Entry Requirements
From 6th September 2022, COVID-19 vaccination requirements have been removed and no longer apply for travel and entry to the Cook Islands by Aircraft and Sea vessel. Normal Immigration requirements apply:
If you are visiting the Cook Islands you must meet the following immigration requirements:
- All international passport holders must have a passport valid for a period of at least 6 months beyond their intended period of stay in the Cook Islands. This will allow you a stay of up to 31 days in the Cook Islands.
- All New Zealand and Australian passport holders must have a passport valid for a period of at least 7 days beyond their intended period of stay in the Cook Islands. This will allow New Zealand passport holders a stay of up to 90 days in the Cook Islands. Australian passport holders are eligible for a stay of up to 31 days.
- You must have evidence of a valid outbound ticket or return ticket to your port of origin.
- You must have proof of accommodation during your stay in the Cook Islands.
- For maritime border entry to the Cook Islands, all travellers must comply with the Customs Revenue and Border Protection Act 2012

Advice for Travellers

There are no longer any pre-departure forms to complete before travelling to the Cook Islands.
Travel Insurance is highly recommended for all travellers to ensure financial cover in the event travel plans need to be changed due to COVID-19. Ensure you are clear on your Travel Insurance policy covers and whether there is Cancellation coverage as well as Medical Coverage including pandemics as a stipulation. Be sure to take note of what you have available to you.
If you or a family member tests positive for COVID-19 during your stay, appropriate insurance will be needed to cover costs related to room relocation and booking extensions, rebooking airline tickets and any associated medical costs.
Passengers transiting from outside of Auckland should check with their airline if there are any further requirements at Auckland International Airport (i.e. Health screening) to avoid disruptions.
It is important that all visitors are actively aware of the steps that are in place to reduce the transmission of the virus. Staying at your accommodation if you feel unwell is the best way to stop the virus from spreading.
If a visitor feels unwell and presents with COVID-19 symptoms they should:
- Self-quarantine in their room immediately.
- Make contact with their accommodations COVID-19 Health & Safety Officer by calling reception or host.
- The COVID-19 Health and Safety Officer will supervise a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).
Negative result: Go about their holiday as normal or rest and inform their COVID-19 Health and Safety Officer if symptoms persist or worsen.
Positive result:The visitor must isolate in their accommodation, along with their household contact/s. The COVID-19 Health and Safety Officer will notify the nearest Public Health Clinic or Te Marae Ora Ministry of Health who will provide further instructions.

- Isolation: Isolation is required if you return a positive COVID-19 test. The isolation period is 7 days.
- Household contact: If you are sharing a holiday home/ hotel room/ villa/ apartment/ etc with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you are a household contact.
- Quarantine: If you are a household contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you are required to quarantine for a minimum period of 7 days. If you test positive during this time you begin the isolation period.
What to Expect
Should you be issued an isolation or quarantine order while in the Cook Islands, here is what you can expect:
- Cost of accommodation, food, beverages and other items are the responsibility of the individual.
- Any tests required under either order are free of charge.
- Public Health Clinics will monitor you. This monitoring will be conducted via phone call only with exception of a face-to-face when required.
- The Puna (village support) will assist the Public Health Clinics with regards to delivery of items (i.e. medication) and security.
- Upon receiving an order, you will also be given an information pamphlet from NZHC with useful numbers to contact. This is to help you be as self-sufficient as possible.
- If you are given an isolation order, you will also be given an isolation pack. This pack contains an information booklet, a symptom diary, a pulse oximeter, and a thermometer to help you monitor and record your symptoms.

All passengers travelling to New Zealand by air must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration online to be issued with a Traveller Pass to board your flight.
Your Traveller Pass will contain a QR code, unique to you and valid only for the journey you completed the declaration for. It will let you know what you need to do when you arrive in New Zealand.
You will be asked to show your Traveller Pass at check-in by your airline and at Customs on arrival in New Zealand. This could be printed or on your mobile device.

As of 8th April, all travellers from the Cook Islands will be given RAT tests upon arrival and will be required to self-test and report the results on days 0 and 3 following their arrival. Details are provided when RAT tests are received.

From July 6 2022, the way you travel to and from Australia has changed. All travellers should be aware that:
- People entering Australia do not need to provide evidence of vaccination status
- People entering Australia do not need to complete the Digital Passenger Declaration or Maritime Travel Declaration
- People leaving Australia will not be asked to provide evidence of their vaccination status
- Unvaccinated visa holders do not need a travel exemption to travel to Australia
- Masks are still required on flights travelling to Australia.

Maritime borders to the Cook Islands are open!
All marine crafts must enter the Cook Islands through the Avatiu Port, Rarotonga.
Approval to birth or land must be sought through the Harbourmaster and clearance received from a Customs Officer.
All arriving marine crafts must meet maritime border entry requirements by providing a number of relevant information at least 48 hours prior to their expected arrival time.
All departing marine crafts should advise Customs at least 72 hours before intended departure to ensure that there is no delay; and must not depart for an overseas place without having first obtained a Certificate of Clearance from Customs.
Travel to the Pa Enua (Outer Islands)
Domestic air and sea travel reopened 1 May 2022. Two-way travel between Rarotonga and most Pa Enua (Outer Islands) is open.
Air Travel Requirements
COVID-19 testing and vaccination requirements have been removed for all domestic travellers to the following islands; Aitutaki, Atiu, Mitiaro, Mauke, Mangaia, Pukapuka, Manihiki, Rakahanga, and Penrhyn.
Sea Travel Requirements
