Celebrating World Food Day and World Chefs Day!

Last week we celebrated World Food Day and World Chefs Day with a fun day of activities at the Punanga Nui market.  As part of the activities, Cook Islands Tourism and the Ministry of Health sponsored Potiki Makona Kai (translates as Young Food Champions) which was a schools cooking competition.

Two students each were selected from four local primary schools, and paired with members of the Cook Islands Chefs Association to cook a number of dishes which were then sampled and voted on by locals and visitors to the World Food Day expo at the Punanga Nui market.

The objectives of the activity included improving the Chefs Association profile, provide an engaging event for students attending the World Food Day, and in a small way to educate young people about food preparation, healthy eating and tourism careers.  It was a fun day for all especially the children and the chefs.
