Linktree is a great tool that allows you to host multiple links in your primary Instagram bio link. Think of it as a one-stop shop for your best resources and content. Basically, if people were to click on your Linktree link in your Instagram bio, it will open up to show all your links.

Create a Linktree account with your chosen username and email, then select from the free or paid account options, and now you’re ready to add your links to your Linktree. There is also an ‘Appearance’ feature, at your convenience, to see what your Linktree looks like.

How to title your links on Linktree
Focus on the value people will find when clicking on your links. How will the link answer their queries? Where will it take them? Make sure to avoid telling them what to do (for instance, instead of  "Read my blog post", try “Best places to eat in Rarotonga” if your blog is about the best eateries).

An extra tip: Always double-check your Linktree links. We can't count how many times we've clicked on a link and it was either broken or not the appropriate offer. You only get one shot at capturing people's attention- don't mess it up with the wrong link!

So, should you be using Linktree?
Deciding to use Linktree is completely up to you, and don't worry if you decide against it or want to switch later - you're not stuck forever. Here's a rundown of the pros and cons:

The Pros of Linktree:
  • It's free, except for some PRO features;
  • You get one link in your bio that leads to all your content;
  • It's easy and fast to set up an account, upload links, and paste the Linktree link into your Instagram profile so others can see your stuff;
  • You can add more than one "link" on Instagram which normally only allows links to one website;
  • Plus, you get access to cool stats such as click-throughs - it's awesome finding out that some followers are actually seeing what you post.
  • And Linktree/Amazon integration could mean more money from affiliate links.

The cons of using Linktree are that:

  • the free version has its limits: limited backgrounds, limited stats and you have to keep the Linktree logo.
  • With the paid version, you have to pay for it.

When not to use Linktree for your Instagram bio
Linktree can be a great way of driving more people to your website, but sometimes it may not be the best choice. For example, if you're running a promotion and want people to take advantage of it, using Linktree with multiple links might be counter-productive. It's much better to use one link instead - that way, your followers know exactly what you want them to do.

Double your traffic
Bloggers and social media users have said that Linktree is bad for SEO and can negatively impact your traffic, as well as give you less control over your customer journey. They also say Instagram's spam and harmful content filters block Linktree domains in people's bios.

Henry Clarke, former in-house Social Media Manager at Linktree, explains that a few years ago links like this weren't very common. For a couple of hours in 2018, Instagram mistakenly blocked the Linktree domain, but it was quickly fixed after many users flagged it as an error. Since then, Instagram has accepted Linktree links without any problems for users.

Henry also claims Linktree is good for SEO - this isn't an empty claim! The data shows that on average people click 1.8-2.2 links on a single session - meaning they're likely to explore more about you or your business than if they just clicked one link. That doubles the traffic to your domain!
