Pacific Sustainable Tourism Leadership Summit a success!

From 16-20 October, members of Cook Islands Tourism (CIT) traveled to French Polynesia to participate in a series of high-profile tourism events, including the SPTO Pacific Sustainable Tourism Leadership Summit, Board of Directors and Council of Ministers meetings, and the SPCA South Pacific Cruise Forum. Ministers Hon Tingika Elikana and Hon Tai Hermann joined CIT CEO Karla Eggelton and Director of Destination Development Brad Kirner in Papeete, Tahiti for a full week’s schedule surrounding sustainable tourism development within the Pacific region.

“We continue to work closely with the Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) to ensure the voice and needs of the Cook Islands are well represented in these regional discussions and support programmes”, stated Karla.

“It was an extremely productive and valuable week with a number of opportunities, potential projects, and support mechanisms identified. We are grateful to Hon Minister Elikana and Hon Minister Hermann for their valuable contribution and ongoing support for what we are trying to achieve in both the sustainable tourism and cruise development spaces”.

Having hosted the Pacific Sustainable tourism Leadership Summit this time last year, CIT understands the complex intricacies involved in organising such an event, and congratulates SPTO for what was by all accounts a great success.
