As the President of the Cook Islands Tourism Industry Council (2017-2019), the late Sue Fletcher-Vea championed many interests of the tourism sector and played a key role in raising awareness of sustainability within the tourism sector. This included the establishment of the Mana Tiaki Eco Certification programme which is now a part of the Cook Islands Tourism Business Partnership Programme.  Cook Islands Tourism along with the Cook Islands Tourism Industry Council, the Fletcher-Vea family and Te Ipukarea Society have contributed funds and resources to go towards the Sustainable Tourism Fellowship.

Each year TIS will recruit an intern for 3 months, during which time they will be mentored on Sustainable Tourism. Half of this time will be spent working with Te Ipukarea Society, and the other half based with Cook Islands Tourism Corporation. We thank Sue for sharing her values, her time and bringing a breath of fresh air along with hard work to the Tourism sector and hope that the youth, the future of the Cook Islands continue her legacy with pride.
