The Aitutaki tourism and business conference was held over two days earlier this week. This conference was organised by the Aitutaki industry and its main purpose was to share tourism strategies/plans, identify a development path for businesses with a focus on an Aitutaki tourism specific plan. Director of Sales and Marketing, Noeline Mateariki along with Sustainable Tourism Manager, Sieni Tiraa were invited to provide an update on the Northern Hemisphere markets and the concept of Regenerative Tourism. The conference included presentations from other organisations such as Te Ipukarea Society, the Climate change division, Turama Pacific Travel Group, Air Rarotonga and others. The break out sessions following the presentations offered an opportunity for the business representatives input whereby they shared ideas on topics such as how they could minimise waste, how they want their island to be perceived by visitors, what success looks for tourism in Aitutaki amongst many other things.
