The next Vaka Pride competition will reward the outstanding work of the Punas on Rarotonga during the COVID19 national response efforts.

The next round of the Vaka Pride competition has been adapted to respond to our current state of affairs, as part of our Kia Orana Community campaign.

“Since the last judging of Vaka Pride in February, the world has changed so much because of the crisis. As a result, the Vaka Pride committee have decided to bring the next round of the competition forward from June to May, and to use this round to reward the different Punas who have stepped up through unified efforts” advised Cook Islands Tourism’s, Destination Development Coordinator, Sieni Tiraa.

The revamped Vaka Pride competition endorsed by the committee this week will award $10,000 worth of cash prizes to those Punas who are actively and effectively working together for the nation.  Suggested categories include best Puna, best Operation Namu campaign, best Social Media award, Tiaki Pakari award (caring for elderly), and Akono Turoto award (caring for our visitors).

As part of the Kia Orana Campaign, Cook Islands Tourism will acknowledge, reward and most importantly share the hero stories that celebrate the spirit of collaboration and unity which has always been an integral way of life for Cook Islanders.  This special round of the Vaka Pride competition will highlight the Kia Orana spirit that has shone through in so many ways during these unprecedented times.
