Cook Islands Summer Season welcomes new flights

Air New Zealand today has increased the number of weekly flights from Auckland to the Cook Islands from November 2022. There are now an average of 10 flights per week in November, December and January; with some flights that enable Australians to connect same day via Auckland to Rarotonga. In addition, Jetstar has three flights per week, with the majority moving to daytime flights.

Cook Islands Tourism Corporations CEO Karla Eggelton says “This additional airlift is welcome news for the Cook Islands. This should assist in addressing pricing and availability of seats over this time. The airline industry continue to juggle with available aircraft and crew and managing a raft of other considerations so we are aware that scheduling is dynamic and subject to possible changes in the future.”

While airlift addresses the needs of the New Zealand market, the absence of visitor business from the northern hemisphere will have an impact on our ability to meet critical mass for the Cook Islands visitor economy, and this will require additional consideration. To assist the industry and general public in understanding the complexities of the aviation landscape, Cook Islands Tourism Corporation is holding a Global Breakfast Update in Rarotonga and Aitutaki. The GBU will be focussed on sharing with the community challenges the Cook Islands Tourism Industry are expected to face in the next 12-24months and the work around aviation and airlift. “After months of ongoing discussions it is timely that we share our findings so we can clearly map out and understand our next steps as a destination” Eggelton adds.

The GBU is open to all interested persons and will be held Tuesday 23 August - Edgewater Resort 8am (for an 8.30am start); and Wednesday 24 August – Tamanu Beach Resort Aitutaki 5.30pm (for a 6.00pm start).

Cook Islands Tourism Corporation are expecting high attendance for both events, and ask all persons to RSVP to Carlene Mapu [email protected] for Rarotonga (+682 29435) and Misepa Isamaela [email protected] for Aitutaki (+682 31767)
