Newly installed Eco-Toilets in Mangaia
Cook Islands Tourism is pleased to announce the completion of the long-awaited eco-toilets installation on the island of Mangaia. Completed on July 5, 2024, the new eco-toilets, located at the picturesque Lake Tiriara and the serene Araoa Beach, are designed to minimise environmental impact while providing essential sanitation facilities. Utilising composting technology, these toilets reduce water usage and eliminate the need for chemical treatments. By integrating eco-friendly solutions into our tourism infrastructure, we aim to protect the natural beauty and ensure a cleaner, greener future for our islands.
This project follows the successful installation of eco-toilets on the island of Atiu in November 2023, where facilities were placed at Taungaroro Beach and Mata'i Beach.
The successful completion of the eco-toilet project in both Atiu and Mangaia, is just the beginning. We are expanding this project to the islands of Mitiaro and Mauke in the coming months, furthering our commitment to sustainable tourism practices across the Cook Islands.
Cook Islands Tourism extends its gratitude to our partners and stakeholders who have supported this project, including the island government agencies. Their collaboration has been instrumental in bringing this initiative to fruition.
