Refreshed Arrival Card Calls On Visitors to ‘Love our Little Paradise’
Rarotonga, Cook Islands –Tuesday 6th August 2024
Cook Islands Tourism Corporation (CIT) has launched a refreshed international arrival card, an initiative led by the Destination Development team in collaboration with Immigration, Customs, and Biosecurity agencies. This update aims to enhance the visitor experience and promote responsible tourism in the Cook Islands.
The new arrival cards offer visitors essential travel information such as communications, quality assurance, and safety tips to ensure a seamless and enjoyable stay. Importantly, the cards also serve as a guide on how visitors can embrace the ethos of 'mana tiaki' - the sacred duty of guardianship, which is central to preserving the unique beauty and culture of the Cook Islands.
"The refreshed arrival cards are a vital tool in educating our visitors on how to respect and protect our unique environment and culture," said Visitor Experience Manager, Carlene Mapu. "By providing this information upfront, we are encouraging visitors to become active participants in our efforts to sustain and cherish the Cook Islands. It’s not just about enjoying our little paradise but also helping to preserve it for future generations."
The refreshed cards provide valuable insights on how visitors can contribute to:
The overarching message of the new arrival card is encapsulated in the phrase, "Akaperepere ia to tatou parataito, kia vai ruperupe te reira," meaning "If you look after our little paradise, she will look after you." This message encourages visitors to be mindful stewards of the islands' environment and culture, ensuring that their stay benefits both the visitors and the local community.
