Scholarship Recipients Connect with Air New Zealand
The Cook Islands Tourism Leadership Programme marked an exciting milestone this week as its newest recipients, Eitiare Watson and Pierson Tupou had the opportunity to meet Addrienne Hosking-Tinirau, Air New Zealand’s Country Manager - Cook Islands.
As one of the programme’s key partners, Air New Zealand plays a vital role in supporting career development in the tourism sector. Meeting Addrienne gave the recipients valuable insights into leadership at a high level — and what it takes to thrive in one of the region’s most dynamic industries.
For the recipients, it was more than just a professional introduction — it was a moment of inspiration. “Having someone like Addrienne take the time to talk with us really meant a lot,” shared Rierson. “It showed us that strong leadership in tourism is possible, especially for women in the Cook Islands.”
While the conversation began with quiet introductions, it quickly turned into an engaging exchange. Addrienne shared stories from her own journey in tourism and aviation, encouraging the recipients to embrace new challenges, build their confidence, and explore the many pathways available in the sector.
The recipients continue to gain practical experience through their placements with Pacific Resort, one of the Cook Islands’ leading tourism operators. From customer service to behind-the-scenes operations, the programme is already giving them a solid foundation — and a deeper appreciation of what goes into a world-class visitor experience.
“The learning has been incredible,” said Eitiare. “Every day brings something new, and we’re growing not just in skills, but in confidence too.”
As the Cook Islands invests in developing future leaders, partnerships like the one with Air New Zealand are helping turn potential into purpose — and giving young people the tools to shape the future of tourism in our little paradise.
