Vaka Pride promotes, champions, backs and commemorates groups or individuals making positive contributions

As 2023 comes to an end, the Vaka Pride Committee gathered on November 2nd for the final assessment for the year. Nominations were received from diverse groups and individuals, showcasing their impactful contributions to culture, community, environment and church. The committee invited nominees, including Tereora College, Aposotlic Church, Julie Taripo and Korero O Te Orau, to present their programs.

Vaka Pride promotes, champions, backs and commemorates groups or individuals making positive contributions to any or all of the four pillars: Ao Rangi (Environment), Turanga Vaerua (Religion), Tupuranga Tangata (Community), and Peu Maori (Culture). Our goal is to spark genuine guardianship of our little paradise among our people, fostering the responsibility for each group and individual to care for Their Home - Their Paradise.

Witnessing the commendable efforts of these nominees, the committee decided to collectively award them for their positive contributions across various pillars. The committee encouraged each nominee to continue their valuable work, acknowledging the intersection of programmes across multiple areas. Funding was granted to support the growth of their initiatives, and the committee looks forward to witnessing their continued success.

Awards for each nominees as follows:

    $3500 – Tereora College
    $3500 – Te Kōreo O Te ‘ōrau
    $2000 - Apostolic Church
$2000 - Moments IN TIME Julie Taripo

Vaka Pride Committee is underway with our Round 27 project to commence early 2024, focusing on our Marae. The expression of interest will be shared with our community, and will be encouraging submissions. This initiative highlights our commitment to preserving sacred grounds which hold a lot of history and family significance. Stay tuned for more details as we progress in fostering pride, unity and stewardship.
