Vaka Pride stands tall with Muri Environment Care Group and Te Ara o te Akau
The Muri Environment Care Group (MEC) is dedicated to preserving and protecting the beautiful Muri Lagoon through soil restoration initiatives. This area holds great importance for locals and volunteers who undertake projects aimed at conserving the natural environment amid the ongoing climate change challenges. One of MEC's most significant projects includes planting vetiver grass and native trees along the streamlines of Muri to reduce coastal erosion. The Vaka Pride Committee proudly supports their environmental protection efforts by awarding them $5,500 to aid in nursery developments, calendar of flowering and fruiting, educate the community and visitors, and enhance their online presence.
Te Ara o te Akau (TAOTA) is a coral restoration NGO that provides an educational and action-based community project aimed at restoring, conserving, and protecting the vitality of the marine ecosystem. Their efforts ensure continued support for the well-being of communities, the economy, and future generations. With two established coral restoration sites in Rarotonga they aim to increase the amount of sites on the island. As a result, the committee awarded TAOTA $4,500 to support their project in restoring the Cook Islands' coral reef system, extend education to our children, community and visitors, and enhance social media awareness for their online presence.
Vaka Pride committee is proud to back NGOs such as Muri Environment Care Group and Te Ara o te Akau for the critical projects they continue to sow into the environment, ensuring that the community continues to love their own little paradise for future generations. By recognizing and supporting these outstanding contributions, the committee fosters a sense of unity and stewardship within the community, standing tall and proud beside these champions of environmental preservation.
