An accessible Rarotonga: A vision for the future

Sandie Waddell; an educator, a Paralympian and an all-round inspiring individual is on island this month! Sandie is an avid world traveller and sees a lot of potential in making Rarotonga a destination of choice for persons with disabilities. She is extremely passionate about helping and providing advice to the Tourism Industry, Government Agencies and individuals on how to become more accessible in affordable ways. 

Sandie has spent the last ten years as a quality auditor of aged care facilities and services providing accommodation, rehabilitation, and support for younger people with impairments resulting from both accidents and chronic illness. She has also been working in management training, team building, facilitating workshops, assessing public spaces and buildings for accessibility across New Zealand.

Awarded a MNZM in 2002 for her voluntary work in the disability community, Sandie also holds an Advanced Diploma in Education, a post graduate degree in Health Service Management and NZOQ Certificate in Quality Systems and Auditing Principles.
