Recently CIT’s Director of Destination Development (Brad Kirner) joined representatives from Te Ipukarea Society and Climate Change Cook Islands in attending the Local2030 Island Network ‘Community of Practice’ (COP) event in Honolulu. Local2030 is a global, island-led network dedicated to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through locally driven, culturally informed solutions. Exploring the core themes of both Sustainable & Regenerative tourism, and Data for Climate Resilience, Brad was full of praise for the event; ‘Attending Local2030 provided a great opportunity to develop relationships with delegates from other island nations facing very similar challenges and aspirations to the Cook Islands. The sessions also produced some fantastic ideas and learnings that we have already begun to implement in the Destination Development team”. Brad also used the trip to meet with representatives from both Hawaiian Tourism Authority and Hawaiian Visitors & Conventions Bureau, as CIT looks to further develop the relationship ahead of the inaugural Hawaiian Airlines flight in May.
