Cook Islands Tourism Crisis Management Plan
Cook Islands Tourism Corporation have contracted the services of TRC Tourism to develop the inaugural Cook Islands Tourism Crisis Management Plan.
Consultations took place on Rarotonga and Aitutaki last week to ensure key agencies involvement in the development of the plan.
This plan will deliver the following outcomes:
- Bring awareness to the importance of Crisis Management and Disaster Risk Reduction in the Tourism Sector, particularly for a vulnerable country like the Cook Islands
- Clearly identify and communicate the role of each key stakeholder within the Tourism Sector, leading to effective communication and integration of efforts
- To conduct testing of the Strategies and Actions to prepare for crises
Destination Development Coordinator, Sieni Tiraa states that “the development of this plan is integral for the leading industry in the Cook Islands, particularly post crisis phase as we enter into the recovery period. The Meitaki value under the principle of being responsible hosts will lay the foundation of this plan whereby the safety, wellbeing and health of our visitors will be a priority during times of crisis.”
The plan will be completed before the end of financial year and all stakeholders will have a chance to review the plan and provide feedback before the final plan is released.
