Cook Islands Tourism visits Tereora College

By
Cook Islands Tourism
The tourism industry alone, in the Cook Islands, is responsible for more than 70% of the nation's GDP, therefore it is crucial that the industry remain pristine in the future. It is also recognised that many young people of the Cook Islands are not aware of all the work, apart from dealing with money, that the industry is responsible for. It had been organized by the Level 2 Tourism teacher of Tereora College that a team from Cook Islands Tourism came into the school to share knowledge on different career pathways in the industry. The interns, Itirangi Pennycook and Tiare Anguna (who had graduated high school the previous year) presented their experience working in tourism, alongside Sustainable Tourism Manager Sieni Tiraa who presented the different pillars that build the industry and their purpose. The presentation concluded by introducing the students to our division, the Destination Development Department and other areas of which they were unaware. Successfully developing interest in more young people who are keen to get involved in this area of work.
