The FY23 annualised International Visitor Survey (IVS) report for the Cook Islands has recently been published, with results showing encouraging improvements in both visitor satisfaction and other qualitative metrics.

Of significant note was the average length of stay, which has increased to 8.9 nights (vs 8.5 nights in FY20). This longer stay is reflected in average spend, which has also increased ($2,803 vs $2,136) - an increase which outpaces the rate of inflation. Our visitors continue to be highly satisfied with their Cook Islands experience, with average overall satisfaction sitting at a median of 4.7 (up from 4.5), and willingness to return (94%) and willingness to recommend (98%) also up on FY20 figures.

Director of Destination Development for Cook Islands Tourism Corporation (Brad Kirner) was encouraged by the results; “The Cook Islands tourism industry continues to perform well from both a quantitative and qualitative perspective. With a 26% increase in international visitors in 2023, it’s incredibly important to ensure the quality of these visitors is also maintained. We are only a little paradise and perpetual growth of pure visitor numbers is just not sustainable, so it’s encouraging to see that those visitors we can successfully host are not only contributing more to our economy, but are having a great time while doing it.” The full Business Confidence Index (BCI) results can be found on the Cook Islands Tourism corporate website LINK HERE.
