Emojis are popular symbols that we often use on social media, but do they have any real-world usefulness?

For the travel industry specifically, emojis can help us tell stories: using an emoji in a Tweet can increase engagement by 25% compared to messages without emojis, and using an emoji in your Facebook posts can increase shares by 33%.

When you see these emojis together, it's easy to know what kind of vacation you'll be taking. They all represent fun and excitement

  1. 🎢🎠🎟️
  2. 🌲🍄⛺
  3. 🩳🏖️☀️

But how can this help you reach your audience? It’s all about branding! Emojis give you the opportunity to strengthen your brand, and to create a picture of who you are and the tone of your company.

On more professional platforms, like LinkedIn, using emojis can help your brand stand out from the other text posts.

You can use symbols to make your posts and headlines more eye-catching. Symbols can communicate a lot more than text and can be a more engaging way to communicate with your audience.

It’s important to note that a study published by Springer Link found that the appearance of positive face emojis in tourism-related Instagram posts raised more positive emotions than non-face emojis did. Yet, The appearance of non-face emojis in tourism-related Instagram posts helps to promote more engagement (likes, shares, and comments) than face emoji posts do.

Therefore, emojis can help to catch the attention of readers in a shorter period of time and help to create a digital message with nuances and depth, resembling a face-to-face conversation more closely. When your audience trusts your brand, they are more likely to recommend you to others and become long-term supporters.

Remember to keep these 4 rules of thumb in mind:

  • Understand the meaning behind emojis.
  • Do not use emojis to replace words. Use them to add more emotion or to emphasize words.
  • Use emojis sparingly. When you use a lot of emojis, it can look childish.
  • Put emojis in a logical place. If you put it in the middle of a sentence, it won't do any good for readability. It is best to place the emoji at the end of the sentence.

Don't be afraid to try new things and make sure you're always doing your research. See you online! 😉💻
