Cook Islands Tourism Corporation officially launched phase two of the Kia Orana Community campaign in May,2020. To kick off the 'Mana Tiaki' a heartfelt video was launched, featuring Cook Islanders who capture the essence of this value.

Mana Tiaki denotes the Mana or Responsibility that has been given to all of us as Tiaki or Guardians of our Little Paradise.

In the Kia Orana Community campaign, the Mana Tiaki phase is about us playing our roles as Tiaki to refresh our tourism industry, and work together to prepare for the reopening of our borders.

The Mana Tiaki phase started by working with Government and airline partners to streamline a quarantine process that will first and foremost protect our people and keep our Little Paradise COVID free. This would also allow the wheels of our economy to start rolling again sometime in the near future.

Further we will be working with all of Government to ensure that we strategically support the business sector while addressing the operational needs of tourism with targeted business financing. This includes aligning our Sustainable Tourism Goals with the initiatives in the national recovery plan, concentrating on eco-friendly standards and quality assurance.

In this phase we focus on tourism industry improvements, and training and education that leads to gainful employment and qualification pathways for our people. Meanwhile the international marketing team at CI Tourism are working in the background preparing for the right time to activate a sensitive marketing campaign in our key markets.

The Mana Tiaki video, produced by local company Creators Hype, features tourism icons Danny Mataroa, Kura Happ, and George “Birdman” Mateariki. “The message behind this video is one of stewardship, and that we must work together to perpetuate our Little Paradise” says Metua Vaiimene Director of Destination Development at CI Tourism.
