Die Fortbewegung auf den Cook Islands ist ganz unkompliziert! Es gibt nur eine Hauptstraße, die ganz Rarotonga umrundet, keine Ampeln und nur zwei Kreisverkehre. Wir fahren links und ganz entspannt mit maximal 50 km/h.

Fahren auf den Cook Islands

Das Tempolimit liegt bei 40 km/h für Motorroller und 50 km/h für Autos. In Muri und Avarua Town gibt es Zonen, in denen nur 30 km/h erlaubt sind.

Sie müssen mindestens 16 Jahre alt sein und einen gültigen Führerschein besitzen, um auf den Cook Islands ein Fahrzeug zu steuern. Über 16-jährige Besucher aus dem Ausland können auf den Cook Islands sechs Monate lang mit ihrem internationalen Führerschein fahren, vorausgesetzt, dieser läuft in dieser Zeit nicht ab, wird nicht eingezogen, ausgesetzt oder aberkannt. Mit ausländischem Führerschein dürfen Sie nur ein Fahrzeug der Klasse steuern, für die Sie auch in Ihrem Heimatland die Erlaubnis haben. Motorroller

Wenn Ihr internationaler Führerschein alle Motorradklassen beinhaltet, können Sie mit diesem auf den Cook Islands ein Motorrad oder einen Motorroller mieten. Wenn jedoch nur eingeschränkte Klassen enthalten sind oder Sie Fahranfänger sind, müssen Sie bei der Polizei auf den Cook Islands einen hiesigen Führerschein beantragen. Sie müssen dann bei der Cook Islands Polizei in Downtown Avarua eine Fahrprüfung absolvieren, bei der Sie auch zwei Nachweise vorlegen müssen, wenn Sie einen Besucherführerschein beantragen: einen aktuellen, gültigen Führerschein aus Ihrem Heimatland sowie Ihren Pass. Auf Rarotonga herrscht Helmpflicht für Touristen, wenn Sie ein Motorrad oder Motorroller steuern. Dies gilt nur für Rarotonga und nicht für die Nutzung eines Motorrads oder Motorrollers auf den anderen Inseln.

Öffentlicher Busverkehr

Mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln kann man sich auf den Inseln sehr unkompliziert bewegen. Zwei Busse bedienen die Insel Rarotonga: einer im und einer gegen den Uhrzeigersinn. Die Busse halten an der Hauptstraße. Alles, was Sie tun müssen, ist lächeln und sie heranwinken.

Radfahren

Radfahren auf der Insel ist nicht schwierig, da die Hauptstraßen eben verlaufen. Viele Hotels verleihen Fahrräder, aber wenn Sie ein Fahrrad oder E-Bike sicher zur Verfügung haben möchten, empfehlen wir, eines zu mieten.

Polynesian Rental Cars and Bikes kann man Mountain Bikes, Beach Cruiser und Jumbo-Bikes mieten und bei Tik-e Tours sogar E-Bikes.

Einen Transfer oder Taxi buchen

Besucher können entweder direkt über Ihr Hotel oder bei Ankunft auf den Cook Islands einen Flughafentransfer buchen.
