Enjoy a holiday where kids can just be kids. Here are 25 things you can do with your kids in a little paradise.
Take Maunga Tours' Cross Island Trek, which crosses the island’s inland mountains and goes to The Needle. Take a four wheeled drive adventure tour, hire quad bikes or buggies, learn how to paddle board or scuba dive, go night diving, kitesurfing or big game fishing. Enjoy a family day of mini-golf at either of our two mini-golf courses where you can play a few rounds and enjoy lunch or dinner after.
Scooters, cars or minivans can be hired for a reasonable amount and you can drive around the island’s perimeter in under an hour. We have vehicles to fit a family of 4 or a family of 12 or more! There are no traffic lights, just numerous scooters buzzing around, bearing locals and tourists, all clearly enjoying themselves. There’s a regular bus service going either clockwise or anticlockwise around the island - jump on if you want to meet the locals or get somewhere, although it’s possible you’ll be happy to stay put in your own little patch of paradise.
On a Saturday morning the Punanga Nui Markets in Avarua sell delicious cooked food, fresh produce and fish as well as arts, crafts and souvenirs. The kids are bound to enjoy one of our made to order tropical fruit smoothies or a fresh drinking coconut. A cultural display usually takes place on the main stage where cute local kids (still learning the ropes) entertain the Punanga Nui Market visitors.
A lagoon cruise on a glass-bottomed boat is another must-do for families. Kids are particularly catered for and entertained by the crews. They can snorkel amidst the tropical fish, before going ashore a motu (a small island) for a BBQ lunch and hilarious show involving coconuts, sarongs, more music and a good old laugh at life in general.
