The dog population on Rarotonga has become an ongoing issue for years

The dog population on Rarotonga has become an ongoing issue for years and the Dog Registration Animal Control Committee has been formed to help address this issue. The dog desexing programme for each village started last year in July with a second round of desexing efforts commencing in 2022. With the two rounds of desexing programmes, there has been a total of 279 dogs that have been neutered. The final rounds of the desexing programme will be carried out in Akaoa, Ngatangiia, Nikao and Avatiu over the coming months. Households wanting to get pets desexed outside of the assigned days for the desex clinics are encouraged to get in contact with Te Are Manu – Ph: 27 719.
