    DOGS

You will meet many of our furry locals on your adventures in the Cook Islands, they may join you for a leisurely stroll along the beach or be riding in the back of a truck. While most are harmless, it's always wise to exercise caution.

To ensure everyone's safety, please avoid feeding the dogs. In some areas, they travel in packs and may chase vehicles. If confronted by aggressive behaviour, simply shoo them away. If the situation escalates, pretend to pick up a rock or stick. This usually deters them without causing harm.

Remember, safety is paramount. Enjoy your encounters with our doggy friends from a safe distance.

    SECURITY

Our little paradise is safe and that’s what we love about it but it is always good to stay aware. Make sure you keep all your valuable belongings somewhere safe, whether that be in your accommodation or locked out of sight when you are enjoying our beautiful beaches or exploring around the island.

    HEALTH CARE

Medical Services: Rarotonga offers a range of medical and dental services, including emergency care, optometry, and physiotherapy. For non-urgent medical needs, visitors are encouraged to visit the Tupapa Primary Care Centre. A comprehensive list of community health clinics throughout the Cook Islands can be found on the Te Marae Ora website. While medical facilities exist on Aitutaki and Atiu, the Northern Group Islands have limited healthcare options with small hospitals. For all non-urgent medical assistance call +682 22664

Health Precautions: While the risk is low, visitors should take precautions against dengue fever by using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing, and staying in accommodations with mosquito screens. Local businesses are also working to control the mosquito population.

Travel Insurance: It is strongly recommended that all visitors purchase comprehensive travel insurance. Medical costs, including potential medical evacuations to New Zealand for specialized care, can be substantial. Insurance provides financial protection against unexpected medical emergencies.

Please note: This information is intended as a general guide. For the most up-to-date advice, please consult with your travel provider or the Cook Islands Ministry of Health.
