The Vakantiebeurs, a significant tourism and leisure fair, takes place annually at the Royal Dutch Jaarbeurs Exhibition & Convention Centre in Utrecht, Netherlands. As a key event in the trade fair calendar, it attracts a wide spectrum of visitors and exhibitors from all over the world.

Cook Islands attended this year’s fair in January from 10 - 14, 2024, as a result of an invitation by Travel Essence, one of the largest wholesalers in Europe. The event was attended by our Northern European representative Lars Schubert and Ted Tavai of Tavai Adventures in Aitutaki. Ted's invitation came about after a familiarization visit by Travel Essence in 2023 where they were impressed by Ted and his passion not only for Aitutaki but as an overall ambassador for the Cook Islands.

Ted and Lars were busy throughout the fair offering all sorts of advice and trip tips for the Cook Islands - a very worthwhile investment that has created added interest from the Dutch consumer that will be realized through Travel Essence. It was noted that Travel Essence was the only South Pacific wholesaler who had a stand during the consumer days.

The name "Vakantiebeurs," which means "Holiday Fair," reflects its focus on travel and vacation. It is organized by Jaarbeurs B.V., a renowned organizer of trade fairs and conferences.

The fair offers a plethora of themes around travel. It highlights exotic travel destinations, sustainable tourism, culinary discoveries, and adventure travel. Exhibitors from industries such as tourism, hospitality, and culture present a wide range of products and services. From luxurious all-inclusive packages to tailor-made adventure tours, there is something for every visitor.
