Pursuit in Paradise Aitutaki Marathon

The annual Aitutaki Marathon isn’t just a race - it’s a holiday interrupted by a run! Now in its 8th year, the Pursuit in Paradise continues to capture hearts, creating unforgettable connections between runners, the island, and its people.

Before sunrise, 50 runners - locals and visitors from across the world - set off on the ultimate challenge in paradise. Some trained for months, others joined by chance, swept up in the island’s magic.

For first-timers, it was a soul-awakening experience; for returning runners, a heartfelt homecoming. The people of Aitutaki turned out in force, cheering on every participant. “They knew our names and cheered us on!” one runner shared.

Tahitian runner Axel Guillo set a new record in the 21km event (1:29:45), while Italy’s Lara Bradamilla claimed first woman across the line, saying, “When it hurt, I just looked up at the scenery - and wow!” Her partner Davide Cervesato won the full marathon in 3:41:43, and Rarotonga’s Rupeni Mataitonga topped the 10km in 44:58.

But the true winners were the people of Aitutaki - whose warmth, generosity, and spirit made every step special.

Meitaki maata to Tourism Cook Islands, Etu Moana, Air Rarotonga, Tamanu Beach Resort, and Aitutaki Village for helping bring the 2026 Aitutaki Marathon magic to life.
