Cook Islands Pocket Guide Completes Major Research Trip to Update the Cook Islands’ Largest Travel Guide
South Pacific Pocket Guide has wrapped up a comprehensive research trip across the Cook Islands, aimed at updating Cook Islands Pocket Guide—the nation’s largest and most widely used online travel resource.
From 17th to 29th March 2025, Operations Manager Robin and Editor-in-Chief Laura explored Rarotonga, Aitutaki, and Atiu, visiting an impressive 98 activities and points of interest, along with 110 accommodation providers. The on-the-ground research is part of an extensive content update project, ensuring the guide remains the most trusted and up-to-date planning tool for both travellers and tourism operators.
Launched in 2022, Cook Islands Pocket Guide is a free online guide dedicated to showcasing the best the islands have to offer. With over 500 in-depth articles, the guide supports the Cook Islands tourism sector by providing accurate, third-party travel information that complements the destination’s marketing efforts.
“This guide isn’t just about the main hotspots,” explains Robin, Operations Manager of South Pacific Pocket Guide. “By featuring such a wide range of businesses and experiences, we aim to support community-driven tourism—encouraging travellers to venture beyond the usual routes and helping spread the benefits of tourism more evenly across the islands.”
This latest research trip was delivered in close collaboration with Cook Islands Tourism, whose support was instrumental in facilitating the visits and connecting with local operators. The joint effort also included an AI seminar for tourism businesses in Rarotonga, attended by over 30 operators, offering insights into how emerging technologies can enhance tourism marketing and visitor engagement.
Editor-in-Chief Laura adds, “We’re incredibly grateful to Cook Islands Tourism for their collaboration on this trip. It’s been a major effort that reflects a shared goal of strengthening the Cook Islands’ tourism offering with information that is timely, credible, and accessible.”
The full content update, which involves revising and expanding more than 500 articles on Cook Islands Pocket Guide, is expected to be completed within the next three months. This significant undertaking continues South Pacific Pocket Guide’s support for the Cook Islands tourism industry, which began in 2022, and reaffirms its role in helping travellers make informed, enriching, and respectful journeys across the South Pacific.
