Cook Islands Tourism has proudly signed on to support the Round Rarotonga Road Race; an annual, week-long event held from the 19th-25th September, 2019.

This year marks the event's 42nd Anniversary, with more than 100 international runners signed so far from New Zealand and Australia alone. The Round Rarotonga Road Race (RRRR) is managed by the Destination Management Cook Islands (DMCK) and has become an important fixture on the Cook Islands sporting events calendar. In the years that RRRR has been in operation, runners from USA, Canada, Solomon's, Germany, the United Kingdom, Austria, Tahiti, Japan, Sweden and South Africa and beyond, have been in attendance.

The main event is the 31km 'round island' road race. Other events include the Local Fun Run, Hash House Harriers Birthday run, Round Rock teams relay, and the aptly named 'Nutters Cross Island Run'.

"Running is a popular sport, and plenty of enthusiasts will travel around the world to run in organised events." stated Global Director of Sales and Marketing Karla Eggelton.

"Many participants couple their passion for running and sport with a holiday in our little paradise with their family and friends. The social and competitive aspects of the RRRR make it an event for all the family to enjoy and as such we proud to support the 42nd Round Rarotonga Road Race."

Event Coordinator Maru Mariri Tepou was on hand to attend the signing ceremony on behalf of the DMCK team. As well as the international participation in the event, Teiri and her team have noted increased participation by local residents in recent years. "It's been great to see the number of local participants increasing over the years, from just 94 in 2014 to 246 registrations in 2018 thanks to various local businesses promoting healthier lifestyles."

Registrations for the event close on 13 September, 2019. Registration forms for the Round Rarotonga Road Race by clicking here or email the DMCK team on [email protected] for more information.
