Aitutaki buzzed with excitement during the 11th Motu2Motu paddling event, which spanned from December 4th 2023 to December 6th 2023. The three-day packed event attracted 150+ participants from Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada, Hawaii, and Rarotonga who embraced the challenge of navigating 36km across the Aitutaki lagoon.

The competition highlighted the exhilarating 10km iron races and the intense 36 km mixed teams competition, drawing paddlers from various clubs, all striving for the prestigious winning title. Here's what one of Motu2Motu's veteran paddlers, Annie Fisher had to say straight after finishing her 36km: "The highlight for me was being able to paddle alongside my sister and make new friendships along the way. This year was fantastic, and I'm looking forward to the next". The event concluded at Blue Lagoon with an evening of awards, dinner & show, and live entertainment.

Motu2Motu continues to attract many participants, supporters, and spectators, benefiting Aitutaki's local businesses including accommodations, car rentals, restaurants, water taxis, and local suppliers. It's not just about the competition; Motu2Motu's economic impact helps the community thrive.

Special meitaki atupaka goes out to the event organizers Poppy & Stephen Doherty, recognized for delivering another great year of sportsmanship and are looking forward to welcoming new friends from around the paddling world in 2024.
