Aitutaki’s commitment to sustainability was on full display during a recent site visit to two of the island’s renowned boutique resorts, Private Island Resort Aitutaki and Etu Moana. The tour highlighted each property's ongoing efforts to enhance guest experiences while prioritizing environmental responsibility.
Private Island Resort Aitutaki showcased its recent upgrades, with refreshed spaces that offer a more open and inviting atmosphere. Beyond the accommodations, the resort has invested in sustainable practices, including an on-site hydroponic farm that supplies fresh lettuce and a variety of herbs directly to its kitchen. The resort’s commitment to eco-friendly operations extends to its large composting area, which enriches their gardens, yielding homegrown tomatoes, cucumbers, bananas, and pawpaw—ensuring guests enjoy fresh, local produce. In addition, their on-site chicken farm further supports their farm-to-table approach, reinforcing their dedication to sustainability.
The visit also included a stop at Etu Moana, a property long recognized for its tranquil ambiance and strong sustainability ethos. Under new ownership, Shaun and Molly, along with their daughter, have embraced the resort’s legacy while continuing to implement eco-conscious initiatives. Their vision aligns with Etu Moana’s longstanding commitment to responsible tourism, including the resort’s popular honesty bar concept and various community-focused projects.
Both properties reflect Aitutaki’s growing focus on sustainable tourism, demonstrating that luxury and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
