Cook Islands is open for business!

It is business pretty much as usual in the Cook Islands and holidaymakers are encouraged to stick with their plans despite last week’s storm surges.

Graeme West, General Manager Cook Islands Tourism Australasia, said it would be unfortunate if people cancelled their holidays after some reports made the situation appear more widespread and worse than it was.

“The reality is there was a sea surge which was amplified by a king tide resulting in the lagoon water reaching some rooms at several properties,” said Mr. West. “This affected a few hotels, however most of the island continued to operate as usual throughout.”

Mr. West said the affected resort owners were wasting no time getting their properties back to normal.

“It is our busy season right now, so the island is humming with happy people having a great time.

“My advice to anyone who is concerned, is to check with their accommodation provider. That will give them peace of mind so they can come on over and enjoy the wonderful tropical island holiday they have planned.”
